Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting pieces of rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape. An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted. From the front, the picture appears to be almost three-dimensional. Many different images were used in reverse carved crystal jewelry and artwork but animals were some of the most common used. Fox hunting was a culture full of tradition and ceremony. Adopted by the British Nobility as a sport, riding "hounds" became a sign of status and social standing. Hunting motifs became very popular and were often found displayed in jewelry!

A fabulous pair of reverse carved crystal cufflinks from the Art Deco (ca1930) era! Made of 14kt yellow gold, each double-sided cufflink features a hand-painted picture with an equestrian motif. The images are highly detailed, depicting a rider on horseback performing a show jump over a fence. The horse is shown with a rich brown coat, and the rider is dressed in traditional attire including a jockey cap, red jacket, fitted pants, and tall black riding boots. Each cufflink is backed in yellow gold stamped "14K" and has a connecting bar link. A fabulous pair of cufflinks, they are perfect for the equestrian enthusiast and would look wonderful worn by a man or woman!

Measurements: Each round cufflink face has a diameter of 1/2" and is approximately 3/16" thick. The space in between each cufflink measures 5/8" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the cufflinks is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or reverse carved crystals, and the connecting bar links are secure.
